Go Pottie ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect when you use the Go Pottie mobile app and website, why we collect it, and how we keep it safe.
1. Who we are
Go Pottie is an independent app published by the Go Pottie developer. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at support@gopottie.app.
2. Data we collect
We collect only what is necessary to provide the service:
- Account information — your email address and a unique user ID created when you register (via Amazon Cognito).
- Location data — GPS coordinates when you add or view pots, and (if you grant background permission) when the app monitors geofences near your pots. Location is only sent to our servers when you take an action that requires it (e.g. dropping a pin).
- Pot and catch data — the positions, statuses, and catch logs you create within the app.
- Subscription data — purchase receipts from Apple or Google confirming your subscription tier. We do not store full payment card details.
- Device & usage data — basic crash and performance diagnostics collected automatically to help us fix bugs.
3. How we use your data
- Provide the core map, reporting, and catch-logging features.
- Verify subscription status and grant the correct feature tier.
- Send geofence proximity notifications you have opted into.
- Diagnose crashes and improve app performance.
- Respond to support requests.
We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising profiling.
4. Advertising
The free tier of Go Pottie displays ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier to serve relevant ads in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of personalised ads in your device settings. Pro and Max subscribers see no ads.
5. Third-party services
We use the following third-party services to operate the app:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — cloud hosting, database, and authentication (Cognito).
- Mapbox — interactive map tiles and geocoding.
- Google AdMob — ads on the free tier.
- Apple App Store / Google Play — payment processing and subscription management.
Each provider has their own privacy policy governing data they process on their platforms.
6. Location data
Precise location is used only to support the core features of the app: centering the map, placing pot pins, and triggering geofence alerts. We do not share your live location with other users. Community-visible data is limited to the coordinates of pots you deliberately pin — not your current position.
Background location (if granted) is used solely to monitor geofences you have set up. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device settings and the app will continue to work with reduced functionality.
7. Data retention
We retain your account and pot data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data is permanently removed within 30 days. Anonymised aggregate statistics (e.g. total pots logged per region) may be retained indefinitely.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Data portability.

9. Children
Go Pottie is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 in the EU/UK). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Data at rest is stored in encrypted AWS infrastructure. Access to production data is restricted to authorised personnel only.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
